My favourite Travellers Notebook – Amanda

Today we continue this new series with Amanda

1. What is your favourite Travellers Notebook cover (Make/model/size)?

It’s a custom made TN by Meadowgate Leather on Etsy . It’s based on the Snowbell range, but I asked for the simple slip pocket in the back cover to be replaced with another set of card slots (like the front cover).

The size I bought was the equivalent of Moleskine cahier/8 x 5” – the notebooks I use in it are just slightly narrower than A5 (21cm x 13.5 or 14cm). It has 6 card slots in the front with a slip-pocket behind and the same in the back cover, elastics for 4 notebooks and a pen loop.

The closing elastic comes from the spine (I don’t like the Midori style with it coming from the back cover – it would make it lumpy to write on I think). The holes for the interior elastics are horizontal (unlike the Midori ones which are vertical) so the books sit a nice distance apart when the TN is closed and at the same height. I have added one of the Midori zipper pockets for money – the zipped bit for coins and the slip pockets for paper money.

2. How long have you owned it?

Since July 2016

3. What is it that you like about it so much?

Everything! It’s still got that gorgeous leather smell, it’s the perfect size for me (I find the traditional Midori size a bit too narrow), with all the card slots I can carry both payment cards (bank/credit) and also loyalty cards and my library cards etc. It’s my ‘one-stop-shop’ – with money, diary and a notebook all in one thing.

4. Do you use it all the time?

Every single day!

5. Do you think the design could be improved in any way? How?

Well, I had it made to order so not really. The only thing I would change slightly is the size of the pen-loop which is a bit wide for most pens, but other than that, nothing!

Here are some pictures of it.

My favourite Travellers Notebook – Ana

Today we continue this new series with Ana

1. What is your favourite Travellers Notebook cover (Make/model/size)?

My favorite TN right now is Meadowgate Snowball pocket in emerald green with vertical card slot (left) along with secretarial on both sides and a pen loop.

2. How long have you owned it?

I have only owned it a couple of weeks. When I first heard about TN’s I already had a Leuchtrum 1917 which I would bullet journal in. Then I got an A5 TN cover for it. From there I purchased another A5 TN Cover to interchange with, but I quickly learned that I didn’t carry it with me very often because it would make my bag too heavy. Thus, I purchased a pocket TN cover and it is my everyday carry.

3. What is it that you like about it so much?

I like my pocket TN so much because it is made very well. The stitching is wonderful craftsmanship. It is leather and I just love the leather smell. I love that it has a vertical card slot on one side as well as secretarial slots on both sides. Most importantly I love the size and that I can carry up to 6 inserts. Right now, I only have 4 inserts, 2016 calendar, 2017 calendar, 2 plain grids (one for brain dump and the other for to do list). This is what words for me.

4. Do you use it all the time?

I use it everyday and carry it with me. As for my 2 other A5 TN covers, I use my first one that holds my L1917 for gratitude, passwords/important to keep info, and inspirational quotes. The other TN is for my bible journaling.

5. Do you think the design could be improved in any way? How?

I love everything about it. If I were to add anything, it would be to add spine stitching.

And here are some pictures of my Meadowgate

Thank you Ana

My favourite Travellers Notebook – Nolwenn

Today we continue this new series with Nolwenn

Hi, my name is Nolwenn and you may know me from the Youtube channel John Sparegrave.

I am both a collector and user of TNs which I use in many, many ways from work to personal.

Ok so this one is personal.

Q1. What is your favourite Travellers Notebook cover (Make/model/size)?

My favourite TN of all time (among many that I love) is a TN that my parents offered to me for my birthday. It is a Mr Darcy Chic Sparrow in the color Buttered Rum size wide (to accomodate Moleskine notebooks).

Q2. How long have you owned it?

I’ve had it for just a few weeks since my birthday was in October but I wanted it for months and months.

Q3. What is it that you like about it so much?

I just really love the finish and the leather. It is an intimate type of notebook, very delicate. I dedicated it to pain poetry. I have a severe form of AS (Ankylosing Spondylitis). It makes it hard to sleep, provokes debilitating fatigue and pain. Now everyone has their own ways to deal with it, poetry is one of mine. On the photos I shared, there are poems by authors but also two I wrote myself. For some reason, despite being French, writing in English soothes me more. I needed a delicate leather to hold my thoughts but also one that felt like true skin. I needed a TN that would show scars easily the way my brain takes scars from being constantly hurt and exhausted. Many poets endured debilitating pain, either physical or mental. I really feel Mr Darcy is the perfect place for my pain poetry.

Q4. Do you use it all the time?

Every week but not all the time because I have to work and due to the disease all my strength goes there most of the time. Whenever I’m down, can’t do much and have to rest, I’ll read and write poetry and then go to this notebook to soothe my mind.

Q5. Do you think the design could be improved in any way? How?

I really do think the design of that notebook is superb. It is close to perfection. Now since I don’t use credit cards in it, maybe allowing the customers to choose the inside options would be great.

And here are some photos of my Chic Sparrow
