My Travellers Notebook – Infinee

Today I would like to introduce your to Infinee.

Hello…I’m Infinee’.  I currently work as an Administrative Assistant for a college in NY. My goal is to write for a living, but the bills still need paying. I’m the mother of a precocious 5 year old little boy.  When the kiddo isn’t running my social calendar, I do a lot of reading, youtube is like my television and I’m working on building a blog. For now, you can find me on youtube or Instagram as SingleMomWitCurlz.

1. How long have you been using a travellers note book for?

I originally used a fauxdori, made by Ray Blake, for a creative space.  In September of last year I began using it for planning.

2. What size(s) of travellers notebooks do you use?

I use the original size made a little larger to compensate for overhang, and I have field notes size as well.

3. How many inserts/booklets does your travellers notebook hold?

Three notebooks, a 6 pocket DIY folder, Midori brand card insert and the Midori brand zip pocket

4. What does each insert or notebook get used for?

  • Booklet 1: 2015 yearly and monthly calendar (Diyfish)
  • Booklet 2: DIYFish MTN Version 2.2 weeks and day on one page.  One month at a time.
  • Booklet 3: Grid paper for project planning (DIYFish)

5. If you could have an insert designed just for you, what would it contain?

It must have grid.  I also like a week view, but I need to have designated areas for the aspects of my life.  It’s why DIYFish works so well for me.

6. Have you ever considered making your own travellers notebook cover?

Nope!  I cut down one at one point to try out fieldnotes size, but I’d rather just buy from someone who can be bothered with the fine details.

7. Apart from paper inserts, what else do you carry in your TN and how?

Just the folders, and midori plastic inserts mentioned earlier.  They are wrapped around the booklets.

8. What attracts you to using a travellers notebook compared to other formats?

The ability to just remove a booklet and switch it out.  The absence of rings make it rather easy to write though.

9. What would you like to see in a travellers notebook design?

Better leather quality and bright colors…hint hint …Van Der Spek.

10. What advice would you give to a new travellers notebook user?

Have fun with it!  Do what works for you!

11. Finally, what would you like to see on Travellers Notebook Times?

Maybe reviews of the different inserts available, both printable and pre-printed.

Thank you Infinee

My Travellers Notebook – Colin

Today I would like to introduce you to Colin

I am Colin Edwards. I have retired after a long portfolio career which started with a decade at sea in the Merchant Navy, and concluded as a magazine editor. Now enjoying a lazy life on the south east coast as, possibly, England’s oldest notebook user and blogger at 77.

My blog ‘Margate+’ is found at http://margate35mm.blogspot.co.uk

1. How long have you been using a travellers note book for?

I started using a Traveler’s Notebook about four years ago when I won a competition for the Star Ferry special edition.

2. What size(s) of travellers notebooks do you use?

I didn’t feel totally happy with the tall thin format so I gave it away and acquired a Passport Size and, more recently, a ‘Raydori’ version made to Field Notes size. Perfect!

3. How many inserts/booklets does your travellers notebook hold?

Each notebook has two inserts at any one time.

4. What does each insert or notebook get used for?

The Passport size accommodates rough notes inspired by items read on line along with subscription data, and passwords. The Field Notes inserts are for outlining articles and book ideas, with the second one acting as a personal journal.

5. If you could have an insert designed just for you, what would it contain?

I am quite happy with what I have thank you.

6. Have you ever considered making your own travellers notebook cover?

I lack the skill, materials, tools, eyesight, dexterity and patience to make my own.

7. Apart from paper inserts, what else do you carry in your TN and how?

I have a double page, clear acetate A5 business card holder acquired from a local stationery outlet and folded in half to fit.

8. What attracts you to using a travellers notebook compared to other formats?

Attracted by the absolute flexibility of the concept and Midori’s customizing options [although I don’t use them] Enjoy seeing others’ adaptions too. So much creativity and loyalty around the brand.

9. What would you like to see in a travellers notebook design?

Shift the belly-band elastic knot from the centre of the back cover to the spine so that the book can lie flat.

10. What advice would you give to a new travellers notebook user?

Don’t give up too soon. Give it a break and then try again. It takes time but when you fall in love with the idea you may be hooked for all time. Don’t be afraid to experiment, you cannot do anything that can’t be undone if it doesn’t work. If your budget is tight, look for non-branded inserts at a fraction of the price of Midori originals, although the quality may be lower. Choose sewn rather than stapled inserts if you plan to keep them for a long time.

11. Finally, what would you like to see on Travellers Notebook Times?

I reckon you have the right formula with Travellers’ Notebook Times. Please just keep on doing what you are doing!

My Travellers Notebook – Shaina

Today I would like to introduce you to Shaina.

My name is Shaina Neal. I am a traveller and I’ve just moved to Georgia after living in Europe for 3 years. I am an 8th grade math teacher, a wife, and a mother to 2 fur babies. My hope is to one day retire to Spain and flamenco when I’m not working on a novel!

1. How long have you been using a travellers note book for?

I’ve been stalking travellers notebooks for for about 2 years now, but I bought my first one in May when I arrived back in the States.

2. What size(s) of travellers notebooks do you use?

I am also really in love with moleskine squared cahiers, so I use that size.

3. How many inserts/booklets does your travellers notebook hold?

My  TN holds anywhere from 4-8 depending on what I have in there and how I position it. I am waiting on a new one from ZenKraft tomorrow and I am beyond excited! I think this one may hold 4-5.

4. What does each insert or notebook get used for?

I have my daily, which is a full size moleskine soft cover squared notebook, and I use this for my doodling, lesson planning, bullet journaling, brain dumping. ITs just a catch all. Then I have cahiers as well. One for my novel, another for my goals (life and day to day), the other is for my fitness life (food and exercise)

5. If you could have an insert designed just for you, what would it contain?

I think part of the fun is having a blank canvas to work with every day. I think my perfect page would say “Hey beautiful, what have you got for me today” at the top. Or some kind of magical page that can take a picture of me everyday and it just appears on the page. Hahahaha if only!

6. Have you ever considered making your own travellers notebook cover?

I have, but I don’t really have time. As I said, I am an 8th grade math teacher, blogger, and an aspiring writer. I prefer to buy them and be wowed by their beauty.

7. Apart from paper inserts, what else do you carry in your TN and how?

I also carry a clear zipper case, and a folder that I made. I keep my paper clips, sticky notes, and stickers in there. Sometimes I stick a pen in there too!

8. What attracts you to using a travellers notebook compared to other formats?

I love the idea of multiple notebooks. I have always  kept journals, and the TN systems allows me to have a separate place for al my thoughts. I used to just put tabs in my journals, but this system is much better

9. What would you like to see in a travellers notebook design?

Built in pockets, pen loop, slightly harder leather. This is just nit picky stuff, I love them all the way around the board.

10. What advice would you give to a new travellers notebook user?

Take your time. Don’t get 27 inserts and then feel overwhelmed by thousands of blank pages. I started with 3 inserts and that was almost too much! hahahaha. So my advice is to just take your time and ease into it!

11. Finally, what would you like to see on Travellers Notebook Times?

I love pictures of people’s daily/weekly spread. I love those way more than pics of journal set ups. I like to see people’s creativity and their ideas. I also like to talk about the kind of things I like to include in my TN so seeing that from others would be perfect.

Thank you Shaina thank you for your support.
